Commissioners sworn in after mid-term election, new officers elected

November 27, 2018, 1 p.m.

An exciting afternoon in the Commission Chambers today as two County Commissioners are sworn into office to begin four-year terms. Help us welcome new commissioner JC Deriso and congratulate Elton Langford on being re-elected to a fourth term! In other business, Commissioner Judy Schaefer was elected as Chairwoman and Commissioner Buddy Mansfield was elected as the Vice-Chair.

The County's Recycling Program returns but the options have changed

DeSoto Designated as a Purple Heart County

In honor of the brave service members wounded in combat defending our Country's freedom, DeSoto County is officially a Purple Heart County. The Board of County Commissioners proudly approved the designation on August 27, 2018. Commissioners Selph and Mansfield, both veterans, along with Veterans Service Officer Steve Rickard presented the proclamation to Jack Brunton, Jr., department commander of Florida, with the Military Order of the Purple Heart.


DeSoto County Launches New Emergency Notification System 

County residents can now receive emergency alerts through a new community emergency notification system, called DeSoto Alert. Those who sign up have the ability to choose how they want to receive their emergency notifications by selecting their home telephone, cell phone, email or by text message.
