They collaborate with the School District to provide better resources to the local public school students.  As a team, they have partnered with The Patterson Foundation to host learning activities and the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading to promote early literacy.

Thrifty Nickel

The Thrifty Nickel award goes to Robert Hamrick.  During the construction phase of the DeSoto Veterans Park boat ramp grant, there was a Century Link fiber optic line buried about 12 inches and in the path way of the construction zone. Century Link quoted a price of $33,000 to remove it. After further investigation, this recipient was able to provide a solution that was a cost savings for the Parks department.  He mentioned of a cable easement agreement signed by Century Link in 2012 that defined the proper depth which is 8 feet.  After this was brought to their attention, the fee was eliminated and all cables, fiber optics were reburied to the proper depth.
