DeSoto County Employee Recognition
DeSoto Board of County Commissioners take pride in awarding employees who have made a significant contribution toward the goals of the County, their department, and have exemplified exceptional job performance and/or support for peers and co-workers.
There were three awards presented for this semi-quarter:
- Outstanding Employee Award
- Outstanding Team Performance Award
- Thrifty Nickel Award
Outstanding Employee
The Outstanding Employee Award recipient is Sylvia Edwards. She demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to her job and provides exceptional support and service to new obstacles that the Administrative Services department encounters. She discerns quickly the needs of others and moves efficiently to provide key information, recommendations, and sound judgment.
She has a strong skillset in governmental accounting and is instrumental in the success of the County’s financial stability. She performs above and beyond, and recently offered her expertise and planning skills to implement the upgrade to our Accounting software system resulting in a cost benefit..
Outstanding Team Performance
The Outstanding Team Performance award goes to the Library Department. This team demonstrates outstanding performance and professional pride in public service. Community outreach is a key part of the departments priorities to initiate more community-wide resources. They collaborate with the School District to provide better resources to the local public school students. As a team, they have partnered with The Patterson Foundation to host learning activities and the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading to promote early literacy.
Thrifty Nickel
The Thrifty Nickel award goes to Robert Hamrick. During the construction phase of the DeSoto Veterans Park boat ramp grant, there was a Century Link fiber optic line buried about 12 inches and in the path way of the construction zone. Century Link quoted a price of $33,000 to remove it. After further investigation, this recipient was able to provide a solution that was a cost savings for the Parks department. He mentioned of a cable easement agreement signed by Century Link in 2012 that defined the proper depth which is 8 feet. After this was brought to their attention, the fee was eliminated and all cables, fiber optics were reburied to the proper depth.
