Transportistas comerciales

For Commercial Haulers of Construction Demolition Debris:

Para transportistas comerciales de escombros de construcción y demolición

In an effort to monitor out-of-county waste, the Landfill will now be requiring that haulers disposing of construction and demolition debris have a building permit number of the location that they are hauling the above material from.

The scale house attendants will use DeSoto County's Building Department permitting software to look up the permit to verify that the waste is from DeSoto County.

Metal and White Goods:

Place all scrap metal in this area. All units containing freon (refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners) should be placed upright in the properly designated area. Lawnmowers should be empty of any fuels, oils, or liquids and then placed in the properly designated area. There are separate areas for lawnmowers, propane tanks, bicycles, air conditioners, and refrigerators as well as a loose metal pile. The Metal/White Goods area is located behind the scale house near the blue semi-trailer (see photo above).

White goods are picked up by the Road & Bridge Department by appointment only (863-993-4821) and consist of washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, and water heaters only. Click Here for more information.

Waste Tire Pile:

The Waste Tire Pile is located behind the scale house near the metal pile, inside of the concrete barricades. You may place all tires in this area, regardless of size.

Yard Trash:

All tree trimmings, mulch, logs, lawn clippings, and leaves should be placed here. No landscaping timbers, plywood, construction, or other like items are allowed in this area. Please do not leave yard waste in plastic bags in this area. You must remove all materials from plastic bags, then proceed to the working face to dispose of empty bags properly. The yard trash area is located past the entrance of the working face near the East end of the Landfill.

Household Hazardous Waste:

Residuos domésticos peligrosos:

  • Motor oil and/or hydraulic oil, / Aceite de motor y/o aceite hidráulico,
  • new or used oil from other sources, such as generators, / Aceite nuevo o usado de otras fuentes, como generadores,
  • paint, and / pintar, y
  • batteries / baterias

These items should be placed upright, inside the lean-to next to the metal building behind the scale house. Please limit oil to five gallons per household per visit. All containers should be closed to avoid spillage.  Any other Used or New Oil generated from sources, such as old power transformers, could contain contaminants such as PCBs which turns “Used Oils” into classified Hazardous Waste.

Commercial hazardous waste producers may contact the DeSoto County Landfill Office at 863-993-4826 for disposal contact information.

Recycling:

Reciclaje

The Landfill offers separate trailers dedicated to recycling:

  • electronics (computer monitors, televisions, radios, etc.),

  • newspapers,

  • clean mixed material,

  • glass

Customers are required to unload their recyclables and place them in the appropriate trailers. These trailers are placed separately along the backside of the scale house. For more recycling information please visit the DeSoto County Recycling Program website.

Solid Waste Disposal (working face):

All solid waste (garbage) that does not belong in any of the above-listed categories should be placed at this location. The spotter (a County employee) will direct you to the proper location and advise you if your load cannot be dropped in this area. Please remember that all materials are to be placed at the designated areas. Failure to do so will result in your being charged for a "Mixed Load" which will double your cost for that visit. The entrance to the main working face is the paved road to your right, just past the scale house.
