The Social Services Department will no longer be able to accept Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) walk-in clients. You must have a scheduled appointment. No exceptions.

Other Services

  • Indigent Burial -  DeSoto County contracts with the local funeral home to provide indigent burial (cremation).  A local policy has been adopted regarding disposing of deceased, indigent, and unclaimed bodies.  If there are living relatives, friends, or responsible parties who are also found to be indigent then cremation assistance may be provided. 
  • Fair Housing - You Have Rights!!   If you feel you have been discriminated against when buying or renting a home please contact Lauri Benson, Social Services Director at 863-993-4858 or you can visit HUD.GOV.
